Crop Walk

On Sunday, 10/12/14, join with St. Anne’s and other congregations in the Lehigh  Valley to raise money for Church World Services (CWS). This organization helps
families and communities throughout the world with seeds, tools, and training to grow nutritious food, and with solutions for safe water. They also provide disaster relief and long term recovery assistance. In addition, 25% of the funds raised stay in the local community.

The Outreach Team is looking for parishioners to be walkers and/or sponsors. You can choose the 10 K walk or the 1 mile family friendly walk. The goal for each walker is to raise at least $150. If you are interested in being a walker, sign up on the list in the parish hall. Take an envelope, and start asking friends, family members, neighbors and other parishioners to sponsor you. There is also information on how to raise money online. Read inspiring stories about the work done by CWS. This week is Laura’s story.

Will you walk for her?
At 1 year old, Laura became an orphan and an amputee in the Haiti earthquake in January 2010. Her cement home collapsed, killing her mother and father, and pinning her left leg under the rubble. It was so badly injured that it had to be amputated. Laura went to live with her aunt in a tent camp. Her family enrolled in the People with Disabilities program, started by CWS, along with two partners, and for six months they received cash assistance, psycho-social support, and referrals to much-needed services. The program hosted a team of doctors from Puerto Rico who provided custom built prosthetics for more than 30 people with disabilities. Laura was among these. Now she is learning how to stand, walk and run. Her family was also selected to be among the first group to benefit from a home repair program for people with disabilities.
